Spring 2024 MacCamp / April 20, 21

April 20 @ 9:00 am - April 21 @ 4:00 pm

Spring MacCamp (via Zoom) April 20th, 21st, 2024

MacCamp will be held via Zoom. See the schedule and registration form at https://pmug.org/maccamp-spring-2/

By the time we gather for the Spring MacCamp, Apple will probably have announced or released some new hardware. As often happens, we expect to have a roundtable discussion to discuss their features.

  • Use Focus for a 20/20 experience with Steve Riggins. We receive a lot of notifications and other interruptions during the day. Some of them even arrive while we are sleeping. The Focus feature allows us to manage these interruptions. Come learn the prescription to using Focus on your Mac, iPhone and iPad!
  • How to use the Freeform app with Chris Kent. The Freeform app was released by Apple about a year ago. It encourages users to lay out their ideas on an ever expanding workspace (whiteboard). You can enter text, photos, draw your own graphics, and more. This space can also be shared live with other Freeform users.
  • How to Backup your iCloud data with Joshin Yamada. Apple’s iCloud is a great way to sync data like your Contacts, Calendars, and Photos. Although Apple has not had any high profile disasters, it still is a good idea to make backups of your data to protect yourself from any accidents. This class will cover what you can backup, and what you can’t, and how to restore data on iCloud.
  • Have you heard about Geo-Caching? with Bill Tomison. Geocaching is a fun way to explore your town, countryside, or even somewhere far away while on vacation. This class will introduce you to the basics, showing what hardware and software are needed.
  • Final Cut Pro video editing demo with Loren Leed. Ever wanted an opportunity to watch an editor at work? Loren will be working on another of his Live Music video projects shot with iPhones. This is not a class to teach you the basics of Final Cut Pro, rather a demo with Q&A.

Another part of MacCamp that is easy to do in person but needs some structured time in a Virtual Camp is discussing what individual problems or solutions we have encountered. It may be reviewing old techniques (how can you open OLD files), refresh ongoing practices (how to format a new hard drive), or learning to backup your calendar data. It is important to learn about maintaining your Operating System. It can be cheaper to use an app that is included for free (like Pages or Photos), but you might still need help. How can you find the best program for using your Mac or iOS device to help with other things you want to do or organize?
